Will present a short demonstration of our falling and self-defense
2012 Senior Fest in Franklin Park
Meet in front at 9:30am, Demo at 10:15am, Thursday, Sept. 27th

Senior Fest Fearless Falling Demo Outline

1. Introduction -- who we are.

2. Quick discussion of falling injury statistics.

3. Wake up moment - I will do a loud flat front-fall.

4. Demo of Class format:
    Neck rolls, Arm swings, Hip circles, Knee circles.
    Three Planes Exercise
    Wave Hands Like Clouds

5. Balance and walking:
    "Ice Skating" front stance walk across stage.
    Backwards "Ice Skating" walk.

    "Side-Step" horse stance walk for several steps, then back.
    "Spread the Wild Horse's Mane" movement
        (from holding the ball to arms spread)

6. Three rules of falling: Tuck, Sit, Roll
    First Priority -- protect your head.
    Second -- Sit Down!
    Three -- curl up and roll

7. Show rocking on mat to practice curl up and chin tuck.

8. Show side fall position on mat -- side-to-side a few times.

9. Two at a time, from standing, sit and roll back on mat.

10. Two at a time, from standing, sit and side fall on mat.

11. I will show front falling levels and methods, up to front-roll.

12. Tai Chi movements for self-defense:
    Stay up on your feet.
    Wave Hands and Swat the Bug defense of face and head.
    Wave Hands wrist release move.
    Spread Wild Horse's Mane throw.
    "Spine Lock" throw.

13. Closing comments


The Franklin Park Adventure Center is part of the Franklin Park Conservatory complex. Entering from East Broad Street, you will want to turn to the right to reach the Adventure Center (a left turn takes you around to the Franklin Park Conservatory).  There should be parking available very near the Adventure center.

You will need a ticket to enter and attend the event (which supports the Martin Janis Center, etc.)  I will be buying tickets for us, and will give them to you when we meet in front of the Adventure Center around 9:30am.
